Ladybird, ladybird
Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home,
Your house is on fire, your children are gone;
All but one and her name is Ann,
And she crept under the pudding-pan.
Nursery rhyme origin
Traditionally this is recited when a ladybird lands on your hand or arm, because it’s considered bad luck to kill one.
The ladybird (our Lady’s bird), seems to have had some kind of religious significance since ancient times. There are similar rhymes to this one in many European countries.
